1990 F250 Dana 60, Drum brake removal?

Hi what is the procedure for removing the brake drums from my f250.
Its a 7.3 diesel with a dana 60 rear axle, I've tried beatin on it, i've tried heating it up, but nothing seems to move.

Here are some pictures of the drum

Regards Thomas

I just did this to mine.
Had to back off the auto adjuster to back off the shoes. I made a tool (heated and bent a cheap screwdriver) to push the self adjuster tab while loosening the star wheel on the adjuster. After loosening the adjuster/shoes the drum came off easily.

Before you do that make sure your E-brake is off first that will hold your brake drums on.....

I have just been informed that i have a sterling 10.25 rear axle. I guess it was just my ignorance mistaking it for a dana 60. Some guy told me and i haven't bothered to verify it. I gues i just need a BFH and just whack it some more

Looks like you're working on the drivers side (L). If you've released the e-brake try backing off on the e-brake adjuster on the cable.
The self adjuster on the drivers side has to be moved up ^ to loosen it. I just finished putting the passenger side back together and removing the drum on the drivers side. Neither would come off until I backed off the self adjuster.

If all else fails you could try removing the axle and hub to see if it will release. If you do be prepared to replace the seal @ $40 each and buy a specific spanner wrench @ $30 to R&R the hub nut. I'll bet it's the brakes though.

If you need a picture of the tool to release the auto adjuster let me know. It would be easy to get pictures of it and the star adjuster now that I have the drum off.

It is usually rust between the hub and the drum, if it was your brakes it will move a little then pull back in place. You will need to back off the star wheel to remove it. But if it won't budge and feels solid it is rust and the tight fitting between the hub and drum, the brakes can't hold it solid.
