Go to Spartan Diesel Technologies.

Lots more power: yes
Engine failure possible: yes though unlikely if you monitor everything.
Don't expect your warranty to cover failed parts if you run a tuner.

Lay off the ??????????????????? button!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ive got an intake, edge programmer and and 4in pipes from the dpf back, cant find the right delete kit yet, but if i put the edge on level 4 it is fast as hell, put the foot to the floor on the regular, beat a challanger, charger, mustang, porche(the cheap one), and every truck that lines up, my edge has alerts so i set everything really low, so if it gets even 3 deg. hot it starts yellin at me

i've been wondering what would happen if you knocked the innards out of the DPF filter. like i use to do on cat's when they went bad... my last truck 01 sliverado had the cat's off for 8 years and i never had a problem and it pass emission's every year.

I hope one of the Ford techs responds to this. I thought I read in another post that this won't do anything cause you still have the sensor. Only make you buy a new DPF and they ain't cheap.

If you hammer the guts out of the DPF, it will likely go into regeneration, and stay there.

You will have at MOST 667 miles before it goes into regeneration if you have the latest calibration.

You can smash the innards out, but you'll still need a tuner.

I was thinking the exact opposite, the reason the truck goes into regen is the sesor tells it that the dpf is dirty, limited flow through filter, with no filter i might think that the free flow would trick it into thinking that the filter is clean, or mabye it would sniff all the smoke in the pipes an regen, if anyone does it let us know huh??

The problem is that there is a failsafe that forces regen after a certain amount of miles...if you don't have a working filter in place at that time it stays in regen mode continuously.

Please do let us know - I was thinking of trying it just for the visual inspections that are undoubtedly coming. Cops with a mirror on a stick, etc. - if the DPF and CAT seem to be intact visually, they are less likely to look any further!

well now that was a wast of time on a good saturday. put the empty filter on the truck and it went into regen after ten miles and stayed there also the check engine light came on. truck ran like a bag of CRAP. disconnected the Batteries and tried again no luck. put the filter back on, hooked up the batteries and all was good.

Well there you go. You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can't fool the DPF! Interesting thread!

Ive been running a spartan for a couple months now without my DPF and the truck runs great. better mileage (17hwy) and no regens. I would check with spartan if youre thinkin about removing the DPF. They have the best tuner on the market. Also the spartan is undetectable once removed so all warranty work should be covered.

you know I hear that about these programmers being undetectable but I just don't believe it. It's a computer and has to have a hard drive of some sort which will retain historical data at least until the program space is needed. Besides, I just feel sure that Ford has programmers smart enough to think about performance chips when the computer was designed. Now, the tech at the local dealership may not have the tools to retrieve the data but I'm just betting someone does. I could be wrong, but I'm just saying!!!!
