Not long ago I did several mods and some maintenance. Among them, glow plugs, FRx, retorque under valve covers. Since then I have had the turbo off again and checked the torque again, ( no change ). I did discover a broken clip on the UVCH and have since ordered one from Ed.
My problem is, I am hearing a knocking noise from within the engine that was not there before. It seems to go away when I let off, but is always there under acceleration. Still have good mid range and upper end power. EGt's are good and I can get 18/19 lbs of boost with no problem. I get some blue smoke at start up.
Doing a search, I find that maybe fuel pickup could be restricted (blue smoke), or some kind of injector problem. The UVCH harness should be here any day and I would like to be able to figure it out before I open it up.
I have been following Kwik's ordeal and other injector threads, but can't seem to figure it out.
Well clux, thanks for the response. I guess it was just not interesting enough to get much input. It's hammering harder and louder and I was hoping someone could give me a heads up. I have looked thru the search function until I'm going blind and can't pin it down. I guess I'll have to go pay someone to look at it. There isn't any forum guys around here that I have found that could help, or any at all for that matter. It would be nice to be in an area that had others to bounce things off of.
Again thanks for the response.
As soon as the snow clears up, I'm replacing an injector.
Had a loud knock for 2 years now. Got noticeably worse recently, so I yanked off the driver's side valve cover and started the engine. At first, no knock while the engine was cold. Happens all the time. So I let it idle a bit to warm up. Knock started coming back. Look at the #2 injector, and it's pissing oil out past the poppet.
So I have another injector to swap in as soon as the snow clears up and temps are above freezing. At any rate, I'm positive I sourced my knock to that injector. If the knock goes away after the swap, it will be confirmed.
Hey Patrick, besides it being cold and most of our trucks knock a bit during these times of the year as you seen more guys finding more troublesome knocks and finding out bigger problems. I must imagine its fustrating but all I can do is say sit tight and we'll help bump you to the top so you can be seen. Over the last few nights, alot of threads fell thru the cracks, heres a bump...
Thanks guys. I'm not asking for a miracle, just some help from those who went before.
Thursday I will change a UVCH that has a broken clip and then start the diagnosis process.
This thing is really hammering and I don't know how to test an injector. What can I do when I have the valve cover off to give me an idea. Thanks again.
