Kwik Filter

Anyone out there have a picture of the stock airfilter box or whats left of it just before they installed the Kwik filter (6637). I have seen a few pictures of the filter installed but I want to get an idea of what I have to remove under it.

If by some chance I did not want to chop up the box for this mod what would be the second choice for a filter that fits into the stock box.

Thanks

Richard

Check Kwik's gallery. I think he left the airbox intact.

The first gen. AFE just replaces the stock lid, and there are several panel filter replacement elements available.

The airbox had to come out. Not enough room and the filter completly fills the space left behind.

Thanks Kwik

Did you have to cut or chop the box up or is it just and unbolt and unsnap the parts issue . Just wondering if you could reinstall the stock box and filter at a later date if you wanted.

That's right....but you split the airbox and left the battery holder in place right?

i left the bottom of the airbox on, and the front part (rear of the battery cover). i did take out the "snorkel" to the grille, and the top/back part of the airbox. the end of the filter sits in a little ledge between the edge of the airbox (it is stepped) and the fenderliner (i think it is the fenderliner). it holds it in there nicely. i am debating on the ZooDad mod..

i used a 3" or 3 1/2" hole cutter on my 3/8" drill, (not sure which), to do the zoodad mod.... it was very easy to do... 10 minutes... and what i noticed is that the under hood temp comes down to ambient within a couple of minutes of taking off... we'll see how this does when the weather gets bad... btw... i left the snorkel on, so all the cool air that gets forced down that snorkel comes out right by the 6637...

Correct. I even reinstalled the battery cover with the Zoodad passage so that cool air would be flowing to the filter while underway.

Richard:
The filter airbox separates from the battery cover/box and snorkel, so remove it and see if the kwik filter fits into the space ok. If not, and you have to chop on some plastic, see below.

What I did was keep an eye on this forum till I found someone who converted or is about to convert to an aftermarket air intake system. (Like a severe duty AIS or one of the other commercial systems.) Send him a PM and ask for the original air box. I did, and got the entire system, from the snorkel back, for a sensible price plus shipping. A whole lot less expensive than buying a replacement from Ford. Now I have a complete fall-back if I decide to get out of the Kwik system.
Warren
PS: After converting, I can't think of a reason why I'd want to go back. WSN

i'm sure that a little water goes down that snorkel, but the water would have to make a 90 degree turn to get to the filter when it comes out the other end of the snorkel, not very likely, i would think that any water that makes it through the radiator to the fan would cause more of a problem as the fan would spray it all over, but that doesn't cause a problem... anyway... i am going to keep an eye on this... i crossed a road yesterday that was flooded with about 3 feet of water and i didn't go slow like i should have... something about splashing water with my truck..! brings out the kid in me..! no problems with the filter....

As mentioned in a previous post last week, I have had no problems with water either, and it rains a lot up here. By the way, I just changed out my Kwik filter for the first time after 8 months or so and it was still in good shape. Fleet Filter has great pricing on them too-
