I have been having this problem happening a lot lately. Everybody knows how when you turn in your truck and come out of the turn the steering wheel kind of centers back by itself. When I turn either direction lately the steering wheel like sticks and doesn't center back. It does happen all the time but has been doing it a lot. I have only noticed this since the winter kicked in. I run a plow and obviously that is hard on a power steering system so I is the pump getting weak, or is some the steering linkages going bad? I haved greased the whole front end recently and that has not helped. Anybody else have had a problem with this?
I'm sure someone will be along to help you out, but in the mean time here's a couple of links I found with a quick search here. If you try a little harder with the search I bet you'll find more info/help than I did. All I used was "sticky steering" in the advanced search box and only selected Super Duty/Heavy Duty category.
I would jack front wheels up and shake the wheels up and down, left and right. My guess is bad ball joints or rusted axle u-joints. also make sure the hubs are not staying locked in as this will cause it steer funny.
I replaced the ball joints about 2 years ago. Do they go out that fast? Maybe the snow plow added weight and the diesel pushed them over the edge. I will have to get a chance to jack up the truck and check. We are supposed to get a good snow storm in the tommorrow and wed. so I it will have to wait a couple of days.
7.3 power strokes and a snow plow is a huge strain on balljoints. Not sayin the are worn out, just have seen it happen. We are almost neighbors. I live in dowagiac MI. Will be interesting to see how much snow we get. Im hoping to go snowmobiling at least 1 more time.
Well is good to know I have a fellow FTE'r close. I hope we get a lot. I know what you are talking about I bought a brand new pair of snowboard pants this year and haven't got to try them out yet. I went to school in Dowagiac at South Western Michigan College.
