Need some help Please......

Hi guys I have a little problem going on with the truck. It will not rev over 2000 Rpm. I can drive it down the road and just sit in my driveway with the pedal to the floor and it just blows a ton of white smoke out the exhaust and will not rev past 2000. Anyone have any ideas? Im beginning to think the turbo puked. I did unhook the map line it seemed a little better but still wouldnt rev past 2000. Thanks guys

My guess is you lost a couple of injectors. If I remember right White smoke is unburned fuel. Hopefully it turns out to be something minor. I know how frustrating it can be. Good luck.

I thought unburned fuel was black smoke like overfueling. On gassers white is water, blue is oil, black is carbon, and too much fuel makes your eyes burn like a Mother. Check your fluids, ATF, coolant, oil. Low coolant headgaskets? Low oil injector o-rings? Milky oil water in oil. Someone else will chime in soon I'm sure.

Check you fuel pressure. The schrader valve is on the Fuel Pressure Regulator. Sounds like you have a lack of fuel when there is a demand for it. At idle, should be between 45 and 70 psi (someone will post a more accurate reading).

Check the amount of oil that you have in the block. A lack of oil will not allow the injectors to fire are they are supposed to.

White smoke and it wont rev past 2 grand......I would think if it was getting excessive fuel then it would be black smoke. White smoke to me I would think would be water, head gaskets. Check your coolant level and see if its low. If it is fill it and run the truck and see if it deplets the coolant. That would be the first thing I would eliminate.

Ok thanks guys for in input so far...... I will check the coolant level. I did check the oil and it is full. Could the EBPV maybe be stuck halfway closed?

Very well could matt, That surely would cause it not to rev. Don't know about the white smoke though.

Details?

Is this occurring from a cold start, or when the truck is up to temp and running hard?

On a cold start, white smoke isn't uncommon... it's basically raw fuel not being burnt. I've never tried to rev up my engine on a cold start, so I don't know how many rpms it will hit. But it is pretty sluggish until the exhaust backpressure valve opens and engine warms up a bit.

Black smoke is mostly carbon / particulates... engine is hot, there's enough oxygen (air flow) to burn the hydrogen, but not enough oxygen to burn all the carbon in the fuel.

It sounds like you're starting cold and EBPV isn't opening as soon as it should. If it's a cold start issue, you may also have glow plug problems.

But if this is occurring after the truck is good and warm (like thermostat open), then ???

This is occurring all the time weather its cold or hot. I did unplug the EBPV and drove it around for a while, still runs the same.

Check your fuel pressure. Sounds like a pump that cannot keep up with the demand of the engine.

Sorry i skipped a bunch of posts cause I have to get out the door,

But how I understand it is...

White smoke is unburnt fuel. Like in the morning when it is cold, it throws white smoke for a few seconds because it is not generating enough heat to burn all the fuel.

Black smoke is HOT burnt fuel, but not burnt enough to burn the black carbon out of it.

Blue is oil being burnt, although seems like a lot of trucks will have a little blue haze when started when cold.

I personaly am scared of white smoke the worst, because that means it could be way down on compression. Meaning it didnt create enough pressure to fire the fuel. Other reasons as well.
