On my 78' F250, the metal fuel line ends a couple of inches and perpendicular to the carb fuel filter inlet. I have to have the rubber fuel line 8" or so, in a loop because of the angle of the metal line. It seems to pinch the rubber fuel line bit because of the tight loop. Is this normal?
Yeah cut the metal line back and re flare it. this will help the rubber hose seal better the just reinstall the rubber line. Or better yet take the metal line off the fuel pump and run rubber hose from the fuel pump to the carb.
If you're ambitious you can get a length of steel brake line and bend it to fit and do the repair right. It comes with the proper flare and fitting on the end.
Bend the tube to fit, cut off the end with the long nut and put a slight flare on the end. The lines are cheap and easy to bend.
Running a rubber line all the way from the pump to the carb is a bad idea, it's a real fire hazard. Some states with vehicle inspections won't pass a vehicle with a line like that.
