Regardless, the engine runs way better. Remember to double the resistance as the system fires thru 2 plugs, in one and out the other. Why would electricity prefer a path to ground thru super high impedance to a path of low resistance? Sounds more like voodoo than basic electrical theory.

Once the air/fuel in the plug gap has been ionized the current flows. if the gap is shorted the voltage hardly needs to build at all and if the gap is excessive the voltage climbs until it can't fire or will seek another path to ground such as an adjacent wire if the insulation is breaking down. On the old analog scopes these effects were easily shown.

Just redid the plugs in my 03 Explorer V6 with 83700 on it. Eventhough they say to change the plugs at 100000 miles mine where way out of gap. Supposed to be gapped around .052-.056 mine were at .070 put brand new motorcraft ones in and runs good.
