that or a dolly had to use one when my truck broke on the way to the beach last summer. worked good for the 300 mile trip. and depending on length of the truck and weight u-haul wont let you they put it in the computer and that tells em if they can rent the trailer to you. they turned us down cause the truck was too heavy and too long according to them. my dad could of done it safely but they still wouldn't let him rent it.
If its 4wd I would put it up on a flat bed. if its only 2wd a tow dolly would work just fine. Your 3rd option would be a set of tow bars. Those in my opinion are the best way to tow anything...
You can just some people think that it aint a good idea and aint safe for a truck.(my neighbor was like that kept telling me that towing a truck is unsafe and that i was gonna hurt someone by doing it) but if your careful it works just fine.
I towed my 93 F-250 about 100 miles with one of those tow bars. I did disconnect my drive shafts and tied them up out of the way.
If you take the front bumper off you can mount the tow bar right to the frame, but you will have to get longer bolts, big flat washers and nyloc nuts, that's what I used anyway.
Oh that tow bar is on sale right now for 59.00
