yeah i just got a set of longtubes for my truck and decided on these pacesetters because alot of people here say they are great on our trucks. when i put them on the driver o2 sensor points at the transmition and the number three primary wraps so close to the number four plug that there is no way to get a socket on it to tighten the plug when the header is bolted on. i ended up getting pissed and putting the on plug in first then bolting up the header. has anyone ever had this problem? the o2 really didnt bother me. i can just plug it and weld a new one on 180 out or so.
No. like a half inch. its pointing slightly up directly at the trans. i just plugged it and wleded a new one in the right place. now that i got the glass packs on it is making a real high pitched whistle on the pass side. im lost on that one. never heard an exhaust leak that sounded like that. only when you give her some fuel. any thoughts?
mostly im just disapointed in the design of the number 3 primary. i cant change my number 4 spark plug with the header on. when i have to change it im just going to take it off and cut a notch in the primary to clear a socket and weld it up. why is nothing easy on my truck lol
I had slight interference with the o2 sensor, which I ground out a small part of the transmission webbing to address:
There is another o2 port on the other header which could be used if you extend the wiring, though it sounds like the header angle is just not right. Perhaps a slight tweaking is in order?
As far as the #3 primary being in the way, that seems rather unacceptable. How much interference is there? It sounds like the header was just not assembled properly. I would give them a call and explain this. There is plenty of room for the primaries, so there is no excuse for them to block spark plug access. Mine did not have this issue. Are yours the 70-2221? What engine do you have?
I hope their assembly process or quality control has not taken a dive. There are plenty of poorly made headers for our vehicles, we do not need one more of those.
yours has tons of room. although you have a 351 but i would assume the general bends would be half way close to a 302. i am going to call them this week and explain this to them because i really am not happy with them at all. only good thing i can say it that they sound good open header. i dont have any clearance on the number four plug. i had to tighten that plug then put the header on. pissed me off to be honest. i was just gonna get a set of hookers that were cheaper but opted for these because of all the good things said about them on here. the wistleing noise i think is from that primary because i beat the hell out of it trying to clearance it for a socket and i think i split the metal. so off it comes to weld up.
well the wistle noise was my fault. my only disapointment is the number 4 spark plug clearance problem. the headers themselves are stil very well made. I am currently talking with pacesetter tech support and they want me to send them pictures, but i am at school in ohio until wednesday. so i will take pictures and email some to them then. from looking at davelength's photos above there is plenty of room for the plug, even if he was running the big 13/16 plugs like i have. i dont think standard 5/8 plugs would even fit with the header already on. but i am going to leave them on for now. hopefully it was just a manufacturing problem or something and will send a replacment on for the passenger side. i will keep posted if anything happens with tech support
well the guy at tech support i have been talking to sent the pictures that i sent him to his R&D department(whatever that means lol) and am waiting for an email back. just thought i would update you guys and put up some pictures of it in the mean time.
the fact that they came with no high heat paint kinda sucked
