I am considering purchasing a 1978 F100 from an older gentlman (orginal owner) that has about 80,000 original miles on it. This truck is immaculate! It was kept garaged at home and in a warehouse at work and the original paint still looks like it came off the showroom floor. According to the (extensive) service records the only thing not original on the engine is the alternator and the battery. It has a 351M, built in tool box on the side and perfect upholstery- I've never seen an old truck look this good. Anybody have any ideas on a fair price? Because it's in such good shape it really doesn't compare to most used '78's for sale but I don't want either of us to get the short end of the stick since he's a friend.
It really depends on where the truck has been (in the Rust-belt or not) and what trim level it has. Is it a Ranger or XLT? Does it have an automatic trans? If a rust free (underneath) truck with an automatic and original miles I would estimate it at $4500. Thats for the Pacific Northwest market. Make sure to check the title "issue date". It should be sometime in 1978 or '79. Things are not always as they seem.
