Good evening my fellow 7.3ers. Okay, if you can remember a while back, I was having an issue with fuse #35 blowing all the time.
Things on this fuse:
radio, "wait to start" light on dash, in fact most of the cluster , no rpms, no speed, interior light, power windows.
Everything but the items listed above work fine. The truck runs good. Starts good. Okay, now getting to the point. Last night I was driving home and it started to act up again but something different this time. Everytime I hit a bump or hit the brakes to slow down a bit, the interior light would flash. When I got home I started to play around with it a little bit to try and find out what action would blow the fuse and I had thought I had it narrowed down to the dome light. Everytime I would open the door it would blow the fuse and if I tried to stick another one in there really fast it would also blow but if I waited a minute roughly I could stick the fuse in and it wouldn't blow.
So today i got up, went out side, -10 today and started ripping out the back trim panel so I could pop the head liner to inspect wiring. I read in a previous thread that somebodyelse's had rubbed through the insulation on the wires and was shorting out on the roof. This doesn't seem to be my problem so I followed the wires down to the chanel along the door on the driver's side. I had to melt lots of ice to get everything out nice and easily and again no broken or burnt wires so I popped the cover off in between the door and the frame and inspected wires for breaking and cracking. I found 3 wires with cracked and missing insulation, however these wires had not touched due to their different locations. So I taped all these up and proceeded on.
Does anybody have the wiring diagram for this circuit? The three wires going to the interior light are:
black, stripe, light blue
black
green, stripe, yellow
Now I don't know what wire is supose to be hot. I have assumed black being ground. I've also noticed the black, stripe, light blue has lots of tie-ins so now that leaves me with green, stripe, yellow. Now I know there is a wiring harness that runs under the floor from the driver's to the passenger's side, I have not checked this harness though.
If there is any other information I can provide to help me diagnose this problem, pm me.
well i took a look under the truck to day and yes i think i have found it. there is a harness that go over the fram rail right next to the transfur case and it rubed through the loom
Not sure if you still wanted to know, but the wiring manual shows black/light blue as the interior and cargo lamp and light green/yellow as the map lamps.
