2 nails, a shotgun shell and a hand full of sand where living in the fuel tank. I cleaned it all out including the fuel filter housing that was plugged enough to prevent the truck from idling smothly.
My concern is the condition of the injectors on my 7.3 liter. Any way to test them?
WOW, someone dont like ya. Have heard of some diesel shops having a test stand where they can test injectors out of the engine, other than that no good way to test them for flow. You can have someone test with a scaner and they can BUZZ test them, but that only test the electric side of the injector. hows the truck run now? ok or does it miss hot or cold?
You got some mean a$$ friends, or you need to find a better place to store your Ammo! I'm surprised your truck runs at all. I just hope your injectors aren't bad. Good Luck with getting them checked out.
None of those "additives" will dissolve like sugar or salt... and hopefully the fuel filter captured any sand that made it to the fuel lines. How does the engine run now that you have a clean fuel tank?

Its runs OK I guess I'm concerned about long term damage. The truck has 200K miles on it.
dodged that bullet LOL Wish I could think of things like that. Anyway, u should be ok. 7.3 injectors are tough. I may be little worried bout the electic fuel pump though. all that dirt went through the pump on the way to the filter.
you should be fine, soon after i got my 7.3 excursion, the air filter box broke on a long trip causing dirty air to bypass the filter.
Of course, I was driving through northern nevada in a series of sand storms that blocked out the sun in areas. I got really pissed at myself after i remembered it when i got home. I looked in the intake and found sand stuck to the walls in areas. I have 180,000 on it now, and this happened at 165,000. still runs strong.
Once, a long time ago, I had a slip tank full of diesel, which I purchased for a great deal during a gas war.
It kept vanishing overnight, until a week later only a few inches remained.
I dumped in several bottles of that toilet plumbing cleaner stuff, and the next morning there was a next to brand new dodge diesel down the lane, having some "problems" LOL.
