Being that he initiated the race by revving at you......I wouldn't feel guilty at all. He doesn't know that you just didn't see L.E. until go time. Think of what he would have been saying about you if you turned down, again him not knowing that you knew there was L.E. in the area.

BTW...r.d's are illegal in Utah as well. They like to pull you over if they see anything mounted that resembles an r.d.

More and more I'm glad that I've only lived in the Confederacy. So much more tolerante(ironic isn't it) of such things.

Actually, the use of radar detectors is only prohibited in VA and DC.. There are a lot of places(UT) where you'll get hassled if they see one, but you're not committing a crime..

In VA for instance, if you are caught with a RD, they will take the serial number from the RD during the stop, and return it to the owner.. The SN is sufficient evidence for the courts.. It's a $50 fine and no points..

State code in VA allows us to seize them as evidence and ship them to the owner at their expense when they've served their evidentiary purpose in court. But they are not forfeited to the state. The fine is $40 pre-payable plus court costs. If you paid $50, you got overcharged.

A few links regarding state by state laws:
Radar Detector Laws By State - RadarBusters.com

Radar detector - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

State Radar Detectors Laws

If you are registered commercial, you may be surprised to find out they are illegal in your state. Particularly for the F350 crowd with GVWR over 10,000#.

William_04_X, you get a special exemption in the Exsturgeon.

Radar detectors are regulated differently that radar jammers. The later being illegal in more of the states.
