Well since none of the auto trany experts seem to be around yet today I went ahead and did a little research on google. I found this tech bulletin on water intrusion into the MLP
This bulliten refers to ford part number F5TZ-7A247-A sensor rebuild kit... when cross referenced to the newer ford replacment number you get MOTORCRAFT Part # SW5978... cross reference that a bit more to an autozone part that comes up as a neutral safety switch. I find it odd to me that a neutral switch could cause the problem your having but my experience with auto's is strictly on C6's and old chevy turbo 350's.
MLPS or TPS is not responsible for his problems in my opinion.
How the signal gets from the IP drive gear, to the tranny PCM, and from there to the tach is where I am betting his problem is.
I have no experience with the E4OD in an IDI, so I am only guessing with my answers.
If someone with an E4OD behind an IDI can tell Joe how the tach wires run on the E4OD trucks, I thnk that would get him going.
Joe, if you go to the user control panel, then edit signature, then enter your truck info, it would help people see what we are working on.
That helps eliminate many wrong guesses.
BIGJOE, the PCM is coded to the truck, lots of different codes for different models and years. you cannot get a used PCM to work in your truck unless the numbers on the side of the PCM are exactly the same. you also cannot buy a new one unless you take the old one to the supplier/dealer. I had mine rebuilt.
