I think my pcm is bad. I had two different people scan it and both times it would not connect. There is problems because it intermittly runs bad and stalls and throws the cel light on and off.
Anyone have a used pcm for a 96 automatic xlt 4x4?
Sounds like the CPS to me... CPS is $30 at the dealer, a lot cheaper and easier than buying a new PCM, and you're gonna need a CPS at some point anyways so why not have a spare???
When trying to scan it did you the scanner set on "Non-OBD II" setting? That could be the problem...
No chip? Just ICP & IDM mods? Did you have it scanned when the truck was running? A communications error doesn't mean the PCM is bad. As mentioned, what kind of scanner was used and was it on the right setting? If the CEL comes on, there's a code. If the PCM is bad, it will at least throw a P0605 code. Find someone with a real scanner to see what's going on. The free scans at the auto parts stores won't work.
I went to another guy I know who used a snapon scanner and he was able to get into the pcm, but it didn't have any hard codes. I drained my fuel canister last night, was going to change filter but it would not fit the existing cap. I have put on probably 40 miles so far and hasn't acted up but I plan on putting more miles on it tomorrow. Hopefully it was just some water in the canister.
And I do plan on getting a spare cps hopefully tomorrow.
Same problem. Complete power shut down at 60 MPH or just idling. My dealer states it is the PCM. Trying hard to find a replacement PCM, but so far zero luck! 1999 7.3 Powerstroke F-350 Supercab, 4WD with 6 Speed Manual Trans, 146,000 miles in Bakersfield, CA.
