Better tighten up...!!

I found a few hose clamps lose from where I installed a new ranger heater valve for cooler A/C this past summer. I had lost a gallon of coolant, apparently due to the plastic hose nipples on the valve shrinking in the recent cold. Got a good half turn one the culprit, and a good quarter turn on the other clamps.

Sooo... if you've installed any hoses with screw clamps in the summer and not checked them in recent cold weather... might want to do a double-check on them and give them a little turn with a screwdriver to make sure their good-n-tight.

Oh... and I never have seen any signs of leakage on the ground, and I'm ALWAYS checking for that... it was just an oozing leak that had been going on completely unsupected.

Good heads up Pete, these colder than normal temps have been wreaking havoc on O-rings, glow plugs and everything in the middle, good post..

Remember what I said about the spring clamps last year or maybe two years ago?
They are VASTLY superior to screw clamps.
They follow the expansion and contraction of the fittings.
Leak free for as long as they are installed.
Do a search for "constant pressure clamps".

Good reminder, my hoses to my 6.0 tranny cooler leaked last winter when it got real cold out. Luckily, it dripped on the ground and I spotted it. All those clamps needed a good 1/2 turn or so.

Dan, do they make constant pressure clamps for small tubing like 3/8" and 1/2"? All I can find in a quick Google search is 2" and larger (turbo boot size). Now that I think of it, I'll have to ask my parts department guys here at work (Cat dealer) and see if they carry something that small.

Yes they do.
Finding them, however is another story.
I've searched for years without success.
But they are installed on so many cars that it is surprising that I cannot find any.

Both google and ebay searches lead only to this.

Thanks guys. You are right, just about all newer cars have them from the factory but you never see replacements other than the worm gear types.
