need more air

i have a 94 f350 7.3l idi with factory turbo. motor is stock. my problem is when you close the hood, the cold air intake can't get the air it needs. are there any kits that re-route the intake or any ideas to increase horsepower

he is talking about the snorkel that attatches to the radiator support that gets air from behind the hood basically.

I've been hearing noise complaints about them. and I'm not crazy about cutting on that area of the truck. Is there no way to make a cold air in the core support that forces air in.

If water is deeper than your intake unhook it lol. I would be more worried with the cowl mod than one in the core support.

This is a terrible pic, but the only one I have with the stock intake. It's basically a thin slit of a tube attached to the core support.

My complaint is it doesn't make enough noise. If I turn my radio on the lowest volume setting, the intake noise is completely drowned out. DaveS has a pretty good ram air setup going through his grill. It works good for the 83-86 trucks, maybe the 87-91, but the 92+ trucks have a wider grill and cover the opening that he made on his truck. You would have to cut up the grill to take advantage of it.

Here is the hypermax kit for comparison. It works great, but is overpriced for a piece of plastic. I was lucky and got mine cheaper from a guy on OB who bought it and never used it.

here's the stock air duct at the hood:

the reason its placed there is because around the hood, its a high pressure area.
this is more important than just the amount of the air flow.
so when you place it down by the grill, its good.but its not really a high pressure area.

the cowl is however, and im thinking of running mine here like Sycostang67's setup.
another good place for high pressure is the wheel wells.but this probably is not such a good idea for trucks who go off road.im sure you would have to really keep an eye on the air filter,to keep it clean too.
im liking this cowl induction setup a lot Sycostang67.im gunna copy ya on this one!

One of the newer pickups were drawing air from the wheel well area.

And they were having filter issues constantly, dirt roads or not.
But if you did drive dirt roads, the problem was much worse.

I have mine routed from the cowl. I have driven in some real good down pours on the highway and have not had any water problems. The holes in the cowl on the 87 up trucks are real small round things and don't seem to let much water in but a lot of high pressure air.

And the aftermarket one with that configuration recommends disconnecting it in heavy rain.
