Steering box adjustment

What's the procedure for taking up some slop in the steering gear box on my '68 F100 (360, 3-spd, armstrong). All the other connection points in the steering are real tight. Thanks in advance. DB

If you have power steering there should be a screw with a nut to lock it in place on top of the steering box. If it is manuel steering it may also be on top of the box, but it might be on the side of the box.

Steering box adjustment

Here's something I did that worked. I loosened up the adjusting nut on top of the gear box. Then I jacked up the front of the truck enough to get the front tires off the ground. I loosened the nut up all the way and then got in the truck and turned the wheel from stop to stop a good couple of times. Then I set the wheels straight and tightened the nut down to where it felt right. Of course, lower the vehicle back down and adjust as necessary. It didn't take all the slop out, but it helped tighten the majority of it out. Hope that helps. Of course, if it's real bad, larescorp.com is a good site to get a reman gear box for a reasonable price. Ozzie
