Hi I have a 360 fe engine in my 64 Ford f-250 4x4 and I want to get 390 power from it is it as simple as changing the crank, rods and pistons? any ideas on kits where to buy and so on thanks for any help, Rob
As far as pistons go...depends on your budget. Stick with 360 pistons if you have to choose between those and a 390's.
I don't have any particular brand recommendations...the kit I last ordered came from a company out of of Southern California and I can't remember their name for the life of me. The price for a complete kit was fair though.
Also, make sure the specs are exactly what you have. Call them if you have to. I got shipped a 350 Chevy kit once when it should've been for a 350 Olds...they're completely different engines.

so there is a upgrade kit then? 360 to 390 wasnt even sure that was out there if you rember anymore drop me a line i can use all the help i can get
I don't know that there's an actual kit for changing a 360 into a 390...I'm sorry for the confusion. I figured you were rebuilding your engine and that's why you asked about kits. As far as I've ever known, I've never seen or heard of a kit for said conversion and I'd be surprised if there was one out there.
However, you really don't need one. Locate a new 390 crank (or used one that isn't scrap) and a set of 390 rods (new or used) and that's all you need. I'm still saving up money and time to do the conversion myself (gotta' get tranny first), but this is something I've read about A LOT.
I recommend you do the same...use the Search tool to scour through articles just in the FE Engines forum. You'll find a wealth of information.
Thanks for the reply! That is good news as I have located a 390 nearby that has been sitting for a long time but is not locked up will still turn over good the truck was rolled and totaled 10+ years ago and sitting ever since (yard ornament). Im gonna buy some new 390 rods and start reading up on this some more.. Might have the engine home by this weekend if Im lucky If you figure out any more on yours drop me a line I could probably use all the help I can get thanks again,Rob
