had Firestone destination MT load range E on a 2000 expedition. i loved the tires. they were awesome in mud and deep snow. i towed a 32 ft travel trailer and a 12000 lb dump trailer and was very happy with the performance. i bought a new to me crewcab tow rig. not a daily driver i use it for traveling north snowmobiling and towing the same camper. i tried getting the same tires on the new crew cab but firestone hasn't gotten the shipment yet. i don't want to wait much longer and wondered if anyone was towing with real aggressive tires and which they liked most. buying stock size 265/75 16's. when i go north i hit deep snow often and get into the mud frequently hauling firewood and such around home. it needs to be a real aggressive mud terrain tire. i was thinking Good year wrangler mtr kevlar. like the look. thanks guys
I love the MT/Rs, my favorite tire!!! I have had 4 sets of them and got 40k-50k out of them. I havent ran the Kevlars though, and only sold 1 set and they didnt last but 10k miles on a feed truck. I am now running 305/70/16
BFG KM2s. They are ok but not as good as the MT/Rs in my opinion.
Oh, I am running on a 2001 F-250 CC SB 4x4. And I tow a 31ft TT. As well as heavy equip.
I love my MT/R Kevlars!
They are an excellent tire. I haven't towed heavy like you're talking about but I think they're the best MT tire I've ever run on a pickup. Wet road traction is outstanding for a MT in my opinion.
i've been nothing but happy with my MTZ's. road manners have been great for a mud tire. i haul a 24' enclosed/toyhauler that probably weighs ~8000, and the tires did fine (the size i have are D-rated tho).
i just passed the 60,000 mile mark on them and they still have life left.. i'll be ordering a new set come tax returns.
The Toyo MT seems to be a popular tire. If it were me, I'd buy a tire with load rating of E. There's several threads on this board floating around about Load Range D tires being ""squishy" towing or hauling heavy loads.
Both the Toyo Open Country MT & the Goodyear MR/T Kevlar are rated for 3,415lbs each in the LT265/75/16E size
