Thoughts on Firestone Tires

I know there are a million threads on tires because I've read most of them. I never gave Firestone Tires any thought until reading about them here. I'm just looking for any latest input before I pull the trigger on new tires. I'm at 39000 and the original BFG Rugged Trail TA's are shot. They did good for me but I would like an upgrade and possibly something that will last more than 40000 miles. My truck is a stock 2011 F-450. Keeping the original tire size 245/75/17. I do tow heavy (20,000 lbs) but not every day. I also use her as a daily driver. 80 to 90% highway and the rest dirt/desert/mud. I'm considering the Firestone Transforce A/T for the slightly more aggressive tread pattern. Does anyone have any input on their performance or their comparison to the H/T? I would appreciate any tire recommendations you all may have, especially my dually brothers.

Thanks
Tim

The H/T would be great for highway driving. A/T's if you have to get off the road or snow. I have a friend that's a tire salesman and he has got well over 60,000 miles on the H/T's on his truck. He's also very **** with rotation and air pressure. His truck is a chevy 2500 gas motor 2wd.

Any reason for you disliking them? Bad experience? Was it the Transforce or just Firestone in general?

Bad experience with them on a Mountaineer. One tire came apart and Firestone said it was damaged from impact which was not true. I replaced all of the tires with Michelin tires. A few months later the tires were recalled. Firestone would only replace the spare as that was all I had left. They will never get another chance with me. I have a new Wrangler ordered and if it comes in with Firestone or Bridgestone tires they will be replaced with another brand or the dealer will loose a sale. Burned once, shame on Firestone. Burned twice, shame on me.

I too had an issue with Firestone's in the past. (721 radial POS) I ran BF Goodrich for years. I gave Firestone another shot and have been well pleased with the 2 sets of Destination's I had on my Sport Trac. I am on the second set of them on my daughters escape and I put the Trans force on my 96 F350. Give them a shot

Check out Tirereack.com for consumer reviews of specific Firestone tires. Last time I looked I thought that the A/T's were rated pretty high.

I am on my second set of Transforce AT's and I feel they are a great tire...got close to 60k out of the first set. Went to Bridgestone Dueler Revo's between the two sets which is a softer tire but didn't ride any better and only got 45k. I have ran Destination AT's on my previous half-ton and was very satisfied but could never bring myself to go with any less tread than AT's even if the HT's were rated for more mileage. I am partial to Firestone for the excellent service I get from my local shop.

Well I checked out the Tirerack.com Transforce reviews. It seems you either love em or you hate em. Some people are claiming they have to be changed at 10,000 miles and others say 60,000 miles. I've wrestled with this for quite awhile now but it's time to pull the trigger. I'm going to give them a shot. Hopefully I don't end up wasting over a $1000.00. I guess the same can be said for some of the other popular brands too. Some people loved them and some didn't. I do appreciate all the feedback. I'll give you all a follow up after they are installed.

We put Destination At's on my wife's previous F150 and they were a great tire. They had around 40k on them when we traded the truck and they still had life to go. She mostly drives on pavement and some gravel and the tires gave good grip during all weather conditions. I'm still not a big fan of Firestone tires but these worked great for us, but an F150 is a different beast compared to your F450.

I personally won't put the firestones on our trucks however I will give them the crap my neighbor was running over with his A/T firestone tires without popping them surprised me. He also has them on a super duty.

I ran Steeltex and then Transforce HT tires for years on my work trucks and play trucks for years without one problem, I don't have them now because our new truck didn't come with them but they will be on it when I need tires.

I got 54,000 miles out of the original Firestone Steeltex radials and now I have 50,000 miles on my Firestone Transforce AT's that I put on in 2011.

I am very happy with them. My truck is a 2001 Ford F250 Lariat CrewCab. (I tow a 25' boat in the summer)

I am on my third set of Firestone Destination A/Ts and love them. Had them on 2001 f250 v10 CC for 5 years after two sets of Pirelli Scorpions, now have them on 2012 f250 CC. Puling construction dump and tool trailers, occasionally - heavy and they work for me - plenty aggressive, but very quiet. Not to much experience with other brands tho to compere.

Michelin is the smoothest tire made. Period.......... My F350 came with General POS tires and after 1 blew and took out a fender at 38,000 miles, I replaced them with Michelin M&S tires. Smooth as silk after 38,000 miles with hardly any wear. It's your money, but I know where I will spend mine.
