locking hubs: manual or automatic?

I have a 97 F-250 but I believe that's the year the body style changed so all the parts I buy are for a 96. That in mind my automatic locking hubs won't engage and need to be changed and my question is can I change to a manual locking or do I have to stay with the automatic. I'd rather have manual if that's possible. Any help would be great!

Ya you can, you'll just need the conversion kit to go from auto to manual.

No convertion kit needed if you have the 5 bolt auto hubs.... the 3 bolt autos need a kit... of just get a set of spindle nuts off a rig with manuals....

just like my transmissions .. I prefer manual ..

the larger F series usually lag behind the F-150 when they get updated ..

I second this. I have aftermarket warn lockouts, but I get annoyed having to get out and lock them in. I don't off road so I don't care if manual are a bit more rugged.

I don't have the wife do it though...lol

I say, if your going off road, lock them when you leave the pavement. If it's snowing really hard, lock them while you brush the snow off the windows. that way you don't have to get out later.

Ultimately, I want my girl to be able to drive it, and use it in bad weather if I'm not around. Auto's means she doesn't have to worry about it. Truck will never be offroad as long as I have it. If I didn't live in WI and deal with snow, I'd have a 2wd.

The first time I got my explorer in some mud, the factory auto hubs broke. My girlfriend had to drag it out with her MAZDA TRIBUTE! Now that is embarrasing! I've got warn manual hubs on it now.
