How long should my, "Wait to start light" stay on. It only stays on like 2 seconds if that. It is hard to start, not as hard if it is plugged in all night, but even hard to start then. Is my GP controller bad? GP's? Curious, I am sure this has been brought up before. I am talking about my 93 7.3 turbo. And when it is starting it puffs lots of whit smoke. Once it starts the smoke clears up pretty quick. I have never used ether on the truck.
Generally 10-15 seconds
When glow plug(s) go out, the cycle gets shorter. You could have several out causing the short cycle.
They can be checked with a test light- ground it and touch the probe to the glow plug terminal, if it lights the plug is probly good.
It is entirely possible that the controller is bad, but check plugs first.

.
Incorrect. You would put the clip end of the test light to the +, positive side of the battery and with the glow plug harness terminal unplugged touch the tip of the glowplug, if it lights the light you have a chance of it being good. No light, bad plug.
most of us guys here agree when you replace them,to use only motorcraft glow plugs.
local ford dealers are often quite high, and many have found them online for about 10$ each.
after testing them,it's a good idea to test the whole GP system before replacing them.(even tho it was the older style that could burn out a new set on ya easy if you didn't know what was going on.it's still good to check everything out while your at it.)
check out the top two threads and a couple searches will get ya going.
