I need to crawl under and take the tag off... the head of the nut covers half the number.
I've got another 9 inch from the 64 ... but no tag on it... I know there is a method for determining what it is..any ideas? The 64 had a v8 originally... where as mine had a 240... hoping it is a lighter rear end.
AXLE code on Warranty Plate: 09 = 1965/72 F100 = Ford 9" Rear Axle / 3.70-1 / non Limited Slip / 3300 lb. Rear Axle Capacity.
On the carrier (pumpkin) at about 5 o'clock, is where the rear axle tag is located.
If Limited Slip, there's another tag just above it that has an L on it. But...today, do not be surprised if the tag(s) is (are) missing.
3.70.. makes sense with the original 240.. I always thought the rpms were to high to be 3.50. like the guy told me when I bought it.. I guess I should take that nutt off and see whats on it.
Try this link to help determine what ratio you should use to achieve the target rpm for your engine. Simply put 0 for the extra gears that you dont have in your c4 and put in whatever the gear ratio is for the c4 or whatever trans you have. All you need is your tire size and gear ratio after that. Very easy to use.
