[ Think of it as a heat gun not a hair dryer.[/quote] heat guns work even better .. but be careful i had a small engine fire doing that cuz i caught my air filter on fire
i was running on what i thought was the front tank switched to the rear and nothing. I came to find out the switch had defaulted to the rear and the front was still full. It was a bad switch valve.
I can hear the switch when i change tanks, and i was on the front tank then changed to the rear one, there should of still been fuel in the front one though i didn't want to run it empty, i thought that was like an unwritten law on diesels? If i do have plenty of fuel and there isn't any air leaks why wouldn't it run? It was running great then just quit in a day
Vents can stop up making it pull a vacumn, is a possibility bit I would think after it sat overnight the vacumn would be gone. A restriction in the line somewhaer possibly the selector valve. Fuel pump it self could have gone bad have you run a pressupe and volume test. Ip itself could have gone bad. lots of possibilities. A pressure and volumn test will eliminate most of them and show you where to start looking.
How are the pickup tubes in the tanks. if there is a combination of a broken pickup tube and a bad valve (mine still clicked but didn't work) that would cause your problem
did you look for ice in your fuel filter like star brought up , it happens and it will stop you cold if you have water in the bottom of the filter and its super cold it will form a ice cube and stop the flow of fuel.

Im putting a flatbed on it asap so when i do im goin to replace them and get the freakin fuel guage workin finally, i swapped the filter not even a month ago and the other day when i was checking fuel i have the same coming out of the filter as i do goin into it, i gotta do the 1/3 pint and pressure test to see if im getting enough fuel but i really think it is the tank selector valve or something back in that area, it was runnin great till i changed tanks, but i wanna make sure i didnt ruin the lifter pump or the IP while im workin on it
SHE LIVES!! Its out of an 87, had 78k on it when i swapped them, i got the truck in my shop last night and changed o-rings, lifter pump and messed around with the tank selector valve for a minute then bled the lines changed filter and she fired right up, sounds like its runnin about the same as it did before so yeah hopefully fixed it better than before
