My truck is a 1983 f250, which i got from dad has been sitting around for a decade+. It has a 300 6 thats disassembled sitting in the truck. Nearly all the parts for the engine are missing. I have the dura spark, wiring harness, power steering pump. The heating stuff is still installed. Anything on the motor is missing and so is the radiator, as an engine swap was planned to a roadrunner engine after the straight six died. I want to know what direction i should head in. What engine should i put in it? It has a t18, and from reading the sticker the gears are 4.10. It's two wheel drive. Any advice on where i should head? I don't have a ton of money to spend.
The 300 is a stout engine that will pull a ton and is readily available. It will pull a ton....just won't get out of its own way. But for a good running truck on the cheap, put in another 300.
take your time and enjoy the t 18...
you will not be loving it a first, but after awhile you will learn to.
double clutching will be needed!
runs best at 55-60
remember this was built when 55 was the national speed limit
i thought about aod/zf trans but im just going to run her as is...
Thanks for the advice all. I didn't think you had to double clutch. All the gears are synchronized except 1st and reverse. Anyway this will be an interesting project and vehicle to drive. Looking forward to it. I don't even know anyone who owns a car with a standard.
Totally keep the six banger. Sometimes I wish I had one instead of the 351 I have now. If the windsor goes south on me, I'd seriously consider replacing it with a 300 6. I don't need speed or the cool rumble anymore, I want to get there, get back and know I'm going to do both everytime

This seems like a really great engine to go with. Sure it isn't gonna get looks but it will get the truck where i want it too like you said. Doesn't get half bad gas mileage from what I've heard too.
It is getting so that you do not see the straight sixes nearly as much anymore. You might get more looks than you think - especially with FI manifolds and a 4 barrel.
Ya i want to get a 4 barrel for this and the efi manifolds. So i contacted another local salvage place. A run tested 300. It's missing the carb intake exhaust, which doesn't matter anyway. See if they have a radiator too? Is it a good idea to get a used radiator?
