Does anyone have some pictures of how the air cleaner looks and is assembled for a 1980 F100 carbureted 300 six? Mine came in pieces in a box from the PO and some items seem missing. Thanks for any pictures or diagrams.
Lord help anyone that needs directions on putting a pancake air filter together.
Every 1980 with a 300 I've ever seen used that offset mount. Earliest direct mount I've seen is an '83, when ford went to the feedback carburetor. Not saying I've seen them all, but asking for help I'd ASSume he has the offset filter.
Thanks AbandonedBronco. I was having trouble getting an idea about the general routing of vacuum lines etc. more than the actual assembly of the air cleaner. I wanted to assemble as much of it inside the house instead of the minus 30 C in the garage.
Ahhh.... THAT's the fun part. Fortunately, the entire vacuum line system can almost be assembled in one piece with the air cleaner and tubing intact. It can be difficult to get pictures though, since a lot of it routes underneath other parts, connects to the underside of the air cleaner, etc. There should be a factory sticker in the engine bay up by the radiator that shows the vacuum line routing.
If I remember right, your '83 air filter housing was also about 15" - 20" across, unlike the 10" of the offset type. Maybe they didn't need to offset it anymore since they just made it bigger?
Unless there were clearance issues, the offset style could be a bit of a PITA. The original filter and housing on my truck would have been more than adequate had it fit the 4v carb.
I haven't seen any like that. Then again I don know what mine is supposed to look like either, just that it should have one. I may make one for mine. Haven't seen @NumberDummy around lately, but with any luck he'll drop in and add some of his expertise to the topic, maybe let us know what style goes to what application.

I'd say in the off hand, unless it has poor circulation, prone to getting cold, then it'd go in the other hand.
