So I'm finally thinking about getting around to fixing my exhaust that the PO fudged up. I'm going to be using one of the universal cats from Magnaflow into one of their mufflers and then out in front or behind the right side rear tire. This is just going to be a stock routing if possible, minus the side exit. How should I place it to keep the cab as quiet as possible? I don't want the exhaust to be loud outside and I definitely don't want to hear it inside so what is the best placement of components? Thanks.
Putting the exit behind the tire will be quieter in the cab of the truck. As far as the sound outside the truck it probably won't make much of a difference but if anything it would be louder in front of the tire because of less piping/bends to flow through.
I replaced the exhaust on my '92 F350 with a Bassani off-road y-pipe but I then installed a Magnaflow 59929 metallic core converter in almost the exact same spot the factory converter was located. Behind that I used a Magnaflow 12279 muffler then finished it with a Walker/Dynomax 45683 tailpipe.
All the pieces are a full 3". It fits very well with minor tweaking of one hanger bracket on the Walker tailpipe (Big secret: it's designed for a '90s era Chevy truck). Zero droning in the cab at any speed. Sounds great outside with a low rumble. I used Dynomax band clamps (part no.#32219) to attach all the pipe/converter/muffler. I love my Magnaflows!

What motor do you have in your F350 rla2005? You got me interested in the y-pipe but my truck has the 460 in it. On the Bassani web site they only list 302 and 351 engines. Are the y-pipes all the same?
I have the 5.8L stevetford. No the y-pipes are not the same for the 5.0/5.8/7.5L engines. I am not aware of anyone who makes an OTS (Off-the_Shelf) 3" y-pipe for the 7.5L, never looked.
