Electrical Problem

I HAVE A 79 FORD F-250 4 WHEEL DRIVE THAT I PULLED FROM A BARN AFTER 9 YEARS OF SITTING AND NOT RUNNING. WHILE LETTING THE TRUCK IDLE FOR A FEW MINUTES, I WAS REMOVING WHAT I THOUGHT TO BE UNUSED WIRING UNDER THE DASH THAT CONNECTED TO THE FUSE BLOCK. THESE WERE WIRES THAT WERE USED FOR SNOW PLOW OR SOMETHING, BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT SECURED PROPERLY. THEY WERE JUST MALE SPADES JAMMED INTO DIFFERENT FUSE LOCATIONS. ANYWAY WHILE PULLING THESE WIRES OUT WITH TRUCK RUNNING THE STARTER ENGAGED. OBVIOUSLY I SHUT TRUCK OFF AND TRIED TO RETURN WIRES WHERE THEY BELONGED WITH NO LUCK. SO I REPLACED THE STARTER SOLENOID AND STILL THE STARTER ENGAGES IN RUN OR ACC POSITION. ANYBODY HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS? THERE IS A LOT OF EVIDENCE OF MICE THAT HAD BEEN IN THE TRUCK DURING ITS TIME IN THE BARN. HAS THE IGNITION SWITCH WENT BAD? I DON'T KNOW, THAT IS WHY I AM ASKING.

Gary there sure is some indication of a bad wire in the switch area. The switch could have been bad when the truck was parked and forgotten about. You should be able to pull all of the extra wires from the fuse block without engaging the starter.

Good fortune to you,

John
