Well, it never seems to fail to happen when you need to get to an appointment. I was on my way yesterday to the vet and was driving at 45mph and heard a loud BOOM! After saying the appropriate, "Oh Dookie" I get off the gas and start going through the checklist. I am getting the squishy feeling from the steering wheel. I am going about 25mph and the TPS came on. I pull into my neighborhood and change the tire in 12 minutes. I examined the tire to there was a slash about two inches long. I know that I did not run-over anything as when the boom happened I looked back as it sounded like a tire separation.
Well, it was an internal tire separation....I replaced them with Michelin LTX M/S 2. Got to love a tire that can only last 8,000 miles.
I really like the way that the Michelin's ride compared to the OEM tires.
Just be careful and I know that it could be an isolated case as well as I do not know how long the truck was baking in the Arizona lot during summer.
My 2010 SCREW Fx4 came with Michelins... Not overly impressed. tread is lack luster and handling it what I would expect from an OEM tire. I am going to wear them out and replace with Firestone ATs... Tirerack.com rated the Firestones much higher than the Michelins. I am assuming you had the Pirelli Scorpions that blew out? From what I've heard, not many people have liked them much.
Unfortunately, tire separation can happen to any brand, at any time, and at any mileage.
Sounds like ya handled it well though.
Yeah, I know and I do not blame Ford at all for it.
Thanks..
Hopefully they are warrantied and or otherwise covered so you don't have shell out big bucks again.
Good heads up and nice handling.
Tim, I did not want to go through the hassle and have the money and simply out on the new tires.
I read the review's but I also take them with a grain of salt. I had Goodyear Fortera's on my 99 as well as my wife's Expy. I loved the tires, but people panned them. I also wanted to get new tires and these were one of the four that they had in stock and the other three were classified as "entry" level tires.
