I have an 08 v6 AWD with 48K miles. I had the tranny fluid changed at 29K miles. I am getting a pump whine when in park and drive. The sound comes from the passenger side. I only hear the sound in park, 1st, & 2nd. MPG is unchanged between 19-25 depending on city/freeway mix. Shifts fine except for a marked down shift when driving under 20 and you apply the gas again. Does this sound like possible transmission failure or something else??
I have a Tribute, 4 cyl, 2008, 17500 mi. Just started hearing the whine. Opened the hood and I think it is coming from the alternator area. Still researching the problem.
Spoke to the dealership today. Said the problem is common on tribute. It is either the idler pulley brg where the PS pump used to be, or the belt tensioner brg. They keep parts in stock specifically for this problem. Don't know if the same scenario could apply to you. I am going to take it in the next few days.
Went to the dealer today. He changed the idler pulley, where the power steering pump used to be. No more whine!!!!!! He brought the old out and spun it by hand. Obvious problem---bad bearing. The part is right out in front on passenger side of the engine and easy to get to. This model has electric steering so they did away with the belt driven power steering pump. Replaced it with the problem idler pulley. Hope it is better than the original.
