Is there another way to remove carbon from the cylinders without removing the heads. I heard recently on a radio show that it can be done by injecting a fine water mist through the intake while idling the engine. Have any of you found any chemical products to be effective? Any thoughts and other ideas?
u can remove a lot of carbon by spraying water thru the carb. but u must idle up the engine when u do so. or just take it out to the local strip and run it a few time down the track.
good luck

Although your truck isn't injected, you can still benefit from the service of a Motor Vac machine. It has a wand that can be run down the throttle bores to remove carbon/sludge from the intake, valves and cumbustion chamber. They use a special detergent with a mixture of fuel to do this while the engine is running. You will definently want to change the plugs after doing this because of the trash that gets on them.Ask for it by name at a repair/tuneup shop.

Water is good. Transmission is best. The tranny fluid poured down the engine's carb while running is the best way but it creates alot of thick black smoke-enough to cover your neighborhood (just do it at night).
