i have just finished rebuilding the 4bbl holley carb on my 400ci in my 70 f250 i cranked it up right away and it ran for a long time but when i left with some friends and came back i tried to crank it up again and the truck wouldnt start the only thing i can think of is that there is alot of junk in the tanks, dirt, rust, etc.i have a see through filter that is catching alot of it but i am thinking maybe one of the jets got stopped up anyway,my question is does anyone know of any products or methods of flushing out the tanks to get them close to debris free as possible?any help would be appreciated.
thanx,
steve
Steve you can pull the tank put a little gas in and slosh it around, and pour it out. You should be able to see anything floating around in trere.
Take an air chuck at the fuel pump and blow air back into the tank. Usually just the pickup area is clogged. When you pull the connection from the tank to the pump, you can tell whether the tank is clogged or not. The pump could have failed. I started at the carb. working backwards to find my problem.
Steve-just finished cleaning the tank in my 65. I had real bad gum/varnish build up that had completely clogged up the pickup tube in the tank. I used products made by POR 15. They have a kit used specifically for cleaning tanks. The first cleaner removes all of the gum /varnish etc., the second cleaner removes all of the surface rust , and the third is the sealer itself which is supposed to prevent gum/varbish buildup in the future. It takes several days to soak & rinse the tank but I was VERY pleased with the results. POR 15 has a website that you can order from or there may be a distributor in your area. Good Luck!
