i have a 79 ford truck that won't start , i replaced the alternator, starter which both tested bad, i replaced the solenoid. the ground cable from the battery has lost alot of its insulation and also the cable going from the solenoid to the battery has also lost alot of its insulation could this be causing a short. i turn on the ignition switch the motors turns , but dies out like its not getting any gas .

Sorry about the last post my computer woulden't let me post my message.
Have you tried replacing the ignition switch It sounds like you are getting power when in the start position but not in the run position. And the batery cables could be causing a draw and with bad cables the batery will not last very long.

I have a 78 F-150, I recently replaced the starter because it was turning over very slow and the wires started to smoke. when i took out the old starter i notice the wires well pretty bad and in one spot it was worn 1/2 way through, so i replaced the wire with a new heavier gauge wire and it starts great. I would replace those wires if they are not causing you problems now they will later.
