1993 F150 stumbles underload front tank only

Hi everyone. I've learned alot from this site and made some posts here and there, but I believe this is my first thread. I have a 93 F150 4x4 351 ext cab sb. When I'm driving with the front tank selected, if I hit the gas hard (while merging on the expressway for example) the truck stumbles and jerks like it's stalling out. When I have the rear tank selected it doesn't do that and runs great. I tried to replace the filter by the drivers door but the backside connector would not come off. When I went to start it after reconnecting the front one it took a couple cranks for the engine to start up with the rear tank. I was under the assumption the filter for the front tank was by the front tank. Are there fuel filters for each tank or just the one buy the drivers side door on the framerail? Could the pump be going out on the front tank? I would like to have both tanks working. Thanks for any info.

Vic

There is only one fuel filter. Yes the front pump is probably going out. Test the fuel pressure on the test port on the fuel rail when running on the front versus the rear tank. The pressure should never go below 28-30 PSI range under load.
