I have an interesting quandry, how many old trucks is too many?
In the last week or so I found 3 57 to 60 Ford trucks I really would like to have. Two are reasonably affordable, and I have the room (might have to cut some trees and clear out more places to park things). Problem is that with the 3 I already have I barely have time to keep up with the maintenance, let alone find time to drive them, what with work and family committments. (and clearing snow and cutting grass). Have to make decisions on two of them before the end of the week. Two of mine are F600s, and one that I am looking at is even larger. The lot might soon look like a trucking company has taken up residence.
I can only handle driving/running one at a time, but I usually have a next on the list and at least one spare. If I can find them. You have the room and if you have the money go for it. Better to be with an enthusiast than a junk yard or worse "a slow boat to china". you could always sell them later or part them out.
that all being said, currently I only have my 52 mostly because of the money issue.
If you have the room and $$ I would get them.
I have collected more future projects than I will ever finish.
I have lately been restricting myself to ones that are complete and I can make run and move. I have too much stuff in piles that no one else would know what to do with because it looks too much like junk.
It doesn't bother me to have a few complete vehicles setting around and if someone comes along looking that I feel will do the work to put one on the road I'm glad to see them pass on to someone that will get some use/pleasure from them.
I really enjoy the hunt and collecting things though.
YMMV Richard
Everyone should have at least two! Beyond that you run the risk of appearing a bit eccentric. I think six definitely puts you in the eccentric catagory!
well i got my 59 thats my project. my 64 that i drive. two 67 that are future projects, one 77 supercab that is a future project, then i a have a bunch that i could have if i went and got them, three 40 internationals a 42 studebaker, a 67 olds 442, a 64 galaxie stock car, a 65 f350, a 65 f100, a old world of outlaws 6 cylinder, a couple of old mustang shells, a 63 ******* wagon, Then there are the ones i could probably buy, a 60 f350+ winch truck, and a 60 f100 big back window. Oh yea and im 19 lol so how is that for eccentric.

It sound like you're well on your way to being one of those old guys who never sell anything, and always saying (in an ild man craggily voice) "one day I'm gonna restore 'em." LOL
You will know when you have too many.
I personally restore or reburbish the trucks I buy.
I don't scrap-out my trucks unless absolutely necessary.....This is a restoration site and glad you have the calling.......my buddy has a junkyard.....and some guys will buy trucks and then go home and scrap them out......like a junkyard.....SAD.....Bill
I have to say....I love to sit back and stare at my trucks.
Too many.....well maybe......don't get divorced over it....or if you have them in the front yard....maybe a problem...LOL
I am thinking of transferring all my trucks to my Florida ranch. The weather is so good and I just put up a big-*** building.......They would not rust and get cold and snow covered.....The idea sounds better every day.....and my neighbor is Don Garlitz.....a icon I have always followed. He will love the trucks...LOL
Never really a thing like too many with these. If you don't restore them you can always trade them or what not. Just remember to be practical about it, unless you can afford to fix them all, which even if you can now thats can change instantly in the future, have one or two you're set about restoring and use the others as trade or to sell again. If I had the room I'd buy every classic I came across, but I don't... nor do I have the money, so I dream and hold on to parts because one day I might be able to trade them for a dream!
Always keep some dough set aside for a vehicle or parts that you covet.
I hear of guys that never have the money...but would like to buy......man save the cash up and be ready.
I have a saying.....always have a backup plan!! FOR EVERYTHING!!!
Grandpa told me that and I never forgot it......I have 2 of everything.....LOL
As long as you don't have your junk yard parked where I have to look at it out of my windows, or from my yard, or put up with the vermon, smell, or all the leaky gas and oil flows onto my yard when it rains, I say get as many as you like! (hint hint).
One of my good friends and I walked around his fathers property counting vehicles with Identification numbers (Boats, Cars, Trucks, Trailers). We stopped counting at 70.
Some of the notables were:
Hudson Metropolitan
Nash Overland
3 34-36 International Pickups
46 Lincolon with all aluminum body.
3 MG's
46 Harley with side car.
anyways he has finally come to the realization that he will not have time for all of the projects that he has.
On a side note, you can make money with a collection this size, by renting them to the movie studios.
