05 Excursion with 6.0 Bad Day

I've owned my 2005 Excursion for about a year now, bought it from a man that kept it strictly for pulling his two porsche's around to different race tracks. The truck was maintained so well, that when I brought the service reports to a friend who owns a Ford dealership, he told me flat out if I didn't buy the truck, that he was going to. I did, it had 38,000 miles on it when I bought it, took it to Bayshore Ford in Delaware not long after taking ownership,(40,000 miles) to have all fluids changed and gone over, and even Lou their diesel tech commented on how well the truck was maintained. Took it in for an oil change two weeks ago with 43,800 miles and to have two new batteries installed. Drove the truck 380 miles up to New York to go snowmobiling, and back home, parked it in he garage and came out to a puddle of oil on my floor the next day. Making what could be a long story short here,.....Bayshore now tells me my bed plate gasket is leaking. The truck has less then 45,000 miles and is 3 months out of the 5 year warranty period. They told me the repair would cost around $3,000.00 dollars for parts and labor.
Needless to say I wasn't happy.
How many other people have experienced this failure with a truck that has been maintained by the book,......and with sooooooo little miles and did Ford step up and help out in any way?
Thanks Lou

The bedplate leak is a common problem but does not normally cause a puddle. Usually just a mild drip off the bell housing. I think they need to look elsewere first. This is a major repair that requires the engine to come out and be split open to fix. If this is in fact the problem and you are that close to the warranty expiration I would appeal to Ford. Even if they wont cover the full repair cost, they may make a good will gesture and split it with you.

I think a misdiagnosed bed plate leak is a problem, not an actual bed plate leak, from what cheezit has posted on here

bedplates leaking is not common. we see some with light weapage wich is normal (weapage is a light oil residueat the sealing joint and no drips). Ive done 3 bedplates in the last 4 years, and have yet to see one leave a puddle. lots of stuff looks like a bedplate gasket because oil comming from anywere on the engine tends to run down the bedplate joints. Ihave seen front cover leave puddles and look like bedplates.
I would not in a ever recomend to a custome to fix a weaping bedplate as it a very intrusive repair were a small amount of debrie can cause cause more damage the then good. Nor will I fix a bedplate that I cannot conferm with oil dye.
I would go after a second opinion myself.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the feedback. Is it possible that they may have over filled the oil when it was changed last, and when I got home and plugged the truck in to keep the batteries charged and the block heater on that it spit the oil out somewhere? I ran the hell out of the truck when I drove it home from Bayshore Ford,......didn't hold back at all, and parked it back in the garage again,......came out this morning to a completely dry spotless floor,.....nothing, not a drop of oil anywhere???

If it were me, I'd just keep an eye on it for awhile unless you can pinpoint the leak. Oil is cheap enough if its just a drip. Maybe cheezit will disagree- I'd listen to him, though. He works on these all the time- Ford diesel tech

Thats what I would do. If I came out to another puddle then I would look more in to it.
