Can anyone tell me what fluid runs trough the power brake booster? I think it is the power steering fluid but I am not sure. I had a leak at one of the fittings, and now I need to replace some of it. As always everyones help is appreciated.
The spec is Mercon ATF (or Mercon V), not Mercon SP like is in the trans. I did a flush with clean Mercon last year and I'm soon going to flush again with synthetic Mercon V and add a magnetic filter. Mercon V has been approved for all past Mercon applications. Even though Ford used to say they weren't compatible... Sounds a lot like the new Mercon LV replaces Mercon SP trend. I think Ford's exclusivity rights just ended on SP so they made a new similar fluid they could charge high prices for...
I too have been running the Mercon V synthetic with a magnefine tranny filter on the return line. Has been on the truck for a year now and I am pleased with the results. Fluid still looks and smells new. I will change it again soon for GP. I have made this an annual maint. even tho it is not required.
I was able to do it alone. Put return line in a 1 litre clear bottle, run engine & work steering wheel & brakes. Becareful not to let the pump go dry. Took me 4 qts. before I was satisfied of a complete flush.
