My family has a 67 F250 4x4 with a performance rebuilt 360 (20 years ago). The engine has max of 35k miles. The indicated oil pressure was always low in this truck (10 psi on the highway). The truck is used for general purpose farm activities. Just the other day my old man was driving to the airport and it started to run really rough. Our neighbor looked at it and said that it has a bent connecting rod. Anyone ever heard of this with the long rod FEs?
We have an extra 390 in good shape with no heads. Can I use the heads from this 360 to put on the 390?
The 360/390 motors use the same heads. They are interchangable. Though I do not think that your mechanic is correct on the bent rod. I would start with a compression test all around. If ok than check electrical, points, cap rotor wires spark plugs.
It is almost impossible to bend a rod and keep the motor running. They will almost alway granade apart.
Check this out and let us know what you find. Maybe you can fix the original motor.
Pull the valve covers off and check to see if you
have any broken push rods. If not while valve
covers are off turn engine over and watch the
rocker arms and make sure all are moving. If
not could be broken camshaft, if the rocker arms
on the back cylinders are not moving.
