Guys, don't know if any newbies like me are reading this post due to the curiosity that REGEN sparks. I found the answers to the questions in my post from 4/11/2010 above (except not #3)...in my Owners Manual, imagine that.
1) If I place the truck in park the regen cycle stops?? YES
2) If I were to sit there in drive with my foot on the brake the regen cycle continues but would take painfully long time b/c the elevated temp required to clean the filter?? NO, regen takes place during driving above 30mph.
3) If the regen cycle stops w/out being complete, then it must start up again when next time you're out driving?? NOT Quite, when the cleaning starts it gets the job partially done even if it quits prematurely. Regen won't start up again until the DPF hits the "full limit" and calls for cleaning again.
I'm still learning about DPF, and will continue to share conclusive knowledge when I get it.
Great info. I am learning to deal with the Regen. My regen pretty much makes me get out on the road and drive 8-10 miles. I say "make" because once it starts, it does not stop until I get on the highway. I had two days in a row last week that it would start regen every time I put it in drive. I can handle the loss of power but it makes my truck shake at stop lights. My kids are always asking what is wrong with my truck. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
Shaking at stoplights doesn't sound right to me. When you say it regens when you put the truck into drive, is the engine warm or is it cold? If it's cold, that doesn't sound right. You may consider making an appointment with the Ford dealer. Just curious, how many miles on the truck?

Truck won't regen till the eng/exhaust get up to operating temps. Controlled by the PCM.
A typical day of regen is I leave the house, 2 miles later when I am pulling into the office parking...I get the message. I leave to check on jobs and it kicks on after a couple of miles...I put the truck in park at the stop light because I am tired of the shaking...I take off, it kicks on. Head back to the office...go to lunch...it kicks on...go pick up the kids...it kicks on...go to the liquor store(kidd'n)...I usually do not let it go all day or into day 2 but I do not always have to time to take a 15 minute drive. It seems to hit the cycles every 180 miles or so. I have 9K miles on the truck.
I think you need a commuter car. These newer trucks need to work and work hard. I can you are setting yourself up for a clogged EGR. If you were pulling a load for those few miles that would hlelp at least with the EGR.
I agree that I need a comuter vehicle but it would be a truck since I'm always hauling equipment and tools. Problem is...I do not have the desire to purchase a truck since I just laid out $50K on this F250. The beauty is that if I clog the EGR, the Ford dealer must fix it up until 100K miles. Also, I do put about 100 miles a week highway driving but the dang regen never happens when I'm on the highway. Also...Also, starting this weekend, I will be pulling a 7500lb boat over 240 miles every other weekend. Maybe that will help the EGR?
