Sounds like your EX thinks it's being stolen!

Use your other key to see if the theft system has just refused to recognize your currently-used transponder key, or if it's a general failure of the PATS, or even the entire Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

The Vehicle Security Module (VSM) has power coming in from a number of sources, so be sure to check fuse numbers 7, 17, 19, & 50. Also, check #34 and 44, as those power the anti-theft transciever module.

There are other things on those fuses, too, that may have gone defective to blow the fuse.

Take a look at the wiring diagrams here:

and here:
http://www.e-toolbox.com/ads/wiring/va152782.pdf

What test equipment do you have and are comfortable using?

How familiar are you with the truck's systems?

No expert here but did you try unhooking your batteries and waiting a bit then connecting, might try reseting everything..

Check, clean and charge the batteries. Even relatively low voltage will do screwy things to these systems.

It most certainly will. Also clean the battery and cable terminals. I had the same thing happen to me when my batteries were weak. Seemed like they were ok, but truck wouldn't start and had all that weird stuff you described happen. Mine was a bad alternator (I didn't notice) and after driving it around for a while obviously the batteries were drained.

Yes bad batteries will do that. Get your voltmeter out and check the battery voltage.

If nothing is re-charging the batteries (a bad alternator perhaps), once the battery voltage drops below 10.5 volts, the engine stops running.

It will run at 10.6, but at 10.4 it's dead. Yes, an insignificant change, but that's the threshold for failure.

The engine is not like an old gasser, which may run until the lights are nothing but a dull red.

A whole new meaning to Drive it like you stole it...sorry, thats all I got, not much help on this one. I would have pointed to a loose connection on a battery as well.

i replaced the batteries and still no luck, i check the voltage at the alternator and it was perfect, i guess it is pointing to the pcm or the vsm. i am left with no other option but to go to the stealership. to get the pcm replaced is 375 that includes the keys being reprogrammed. that is still a guess at the problem. i want to push this truck deeeeeeeeep in the ocean!!!!!!!

Are you sure you have an after market fuel pump? What pump do you have? You should hear the fuel pump come on when you turn the key on. Is the pump under the drivers side seat on the frame rail?
