Heater switch and plug fried

On my 2000 e350 super duty I fried the heater fan switch last year. When I replace it I noticed the connector going into the switch was also melted. I put the wires into a new connector and replaced the switch, which showed signs of internal melting, with a unit from a yard. Now I have the same problem happening again. Smells hot, the plug is melting again, so far the switch is ok. Is the fan drawing too much current? What should I check. There is an inline resistor for the various fan speeds but I have no specs as to what the ohms/votls should be. I do not seem to have any problem in the summer with the a/c, however I don't run it for as prolonged a period as I do the heater in winter time.

If it DOES start pulling too much current, I believe that the speed resistor will fail.... however, the resistor coils that determine the speed are fairly heavy duty!

BTW, I had the exact thing happen to a '87 T-Bird.... burnt the plug/receptacle so badly, I feared for my well being and traded it in......Only had 235,000 on it!

I would see how much a new motor is, and replace it. It could be overloading the switch if the bearings are getting old/worn or the brushes are getting worn in the motor.
