Anyone running Vintage air's compact heater?

I was looking around for a decent heater with defrost and found this one Vintage Air 506101 Compac Heater w/ Defrost

I have used their A/C heaters before but not this type. It would be for our 51 F1. Any feed back would be great.

Well, what heats it up, is it electric or gas fired? It states it doesn't use engine coolant.

So before you decide to install one, if it's electric, you better make sure you have at least a 100 amp alternator (no generator) to support it. Heat is watts. Heating watts are amps -lots of them.

Hmmm well I was navigating through th elinks and thought I read that somewhere....can't find it now. But since it has a coolant control valve I guess it must be engine coolant heat.

I haven't used one in a truck but I did use a Vintage air and heat unit in a 29 Ford I built in the 90s. I was very satisfied with the unit and it worked well. I think you would be happy with it...

Just went to your link and when I went to the summit sight it states that it does not use engine coolant to heat?????? Hummmmmmmmm
Well I just went to the Dreamers site and it states that it has a water cutoff??? Must be a typo on one of them. If you go with this unit let us know how it works out. I will have to get something for my 53 as the cab was gutted when I bought it!

I'm going to air condition my F1 at some point, but I'll need heat and defrost as soon as it's on the road. I was thinking of purchasing the under dash heat a/c unit and just running the heat side for now.

I have a older vintage air/heat unit in my 55. I do not have the air hooked up. The heat works very well, however the down side is the heat has no floor vents, only blows air out the front vents. It is a underdash unit and fairly compact and plenty of room to mount and sits nearly level with face of dash when installed. It will heat uninsulated cab in 25 degree weather with no issue. Defrost is weak but works better than the original ford unit.

Here is the install link from V.A. http://www.vintageair.com/DownloadsS...r%20(Inet).pdf

Summit is a type-o. It took me several times reading summits info before I finally found what you were talking about But I have a good excuse, I was up from 8:30pm to 4:30am holding my 2 1/2 year olds head as he was throwing up every 20 min like clock work. But when we woke up this morning (me on the floor of his room next to his bed) he says Daddy I want lunch! Rough night.

Personally, I don't see what one would gain using Vintage Air's heater only unit vs. the standard box heater that was available originally. It has no difference in function, as it doesn't have fresh air or dehumidified defrost, and it surely does cost a heck of a lot more. And at 10x10x6, I don't think it's much, if any, smaller than the little standard script Ford box.
