chris, the manifold,if fact., is in front of carb on intake runner. The heads' # is in between the middle two exhaust ports. The block is right hand side, back of block by starter. Just because it says "352" on front on block doesn't ALWAYS mean it's a 352. As far as my heads, YES they are different to regular 390 heads!!!!!!!! They are for PROPANE, therefore, they came out with stalite valves & hardened seats. I have also checked the cc's of the chambers & they are smaller than regular heads. Also, they have bigger valves than stock 390 heads. The water pump is a fact. hi-flow. I was told it was for a 428. That is what the counter book at NAPA said.
Bulldog, I didnt see any numbers on the block but on the head it reads C6AEU.I'm not sure if that last letter is a u or just a symbol that looks like a u. The intake starts wiyh a big S followed by C6AE and underneath theres a symbol that looks like a 9 followed by 425-6.
the heads are 68 merc as stated. the intake is 66 390, best my book says. It should scream. gotta be outta time or vacuum leak from hell. Have you checked to make sure pvc port is hooked up????? Sure that time is staying set?????? Time could be bouncing.
I had the vacuum checked when I first got the truck and everything checked out ok. At least the guy said if i could turn down the idle mixture screws and the motor slows down then everything is good. I installed a carb spacer a couple of weeks ago and I think that it may be leaking but the gas milage has been about the same. Today im taking the carb spacer back off to see if that helps. Where can I find the numbers for the block? I didnt see anything near the starter but there are numbers by the front of engine block on the same side, also a plate with numbers on it. I bought a disributor for a 352 so what if its not a 352. Would that matter?
What breed of spacer you got? It may be leaking there. Get all the #'s of the block. Just send them in their CORRECT order & group!!!!! The distributor is the same pretty much if single point.
It was a Mr gasket spacer and I just took it off. It seems to run a little stronger without it. The only numbers I got off the block were at the front of block on the left side if looking from the front. Written upside down was C6ME. Below that stamped on a metal plate was 87726. On the water pump was either C8AE or C9AE and then under that was 9505-A or 8505-A.
I just noticed a couple of other things too. Sometimes but not all the time when I come to a stop and let off the brakes and then press them again the idle speed increases a little bit. I dont know how long its been doing it. The other thing is sometimes when you give it a lotta gas itll bog and then kick in but most of the time it runs fine. I dont know if any of this is related to my tpic but I just started to notice it and thought I would post it.
Sounds like you got a possible modulator valve leaking vacuum. Or do you have power brakes???? A friend of mine has power brakes on his & it was doing that. We finally discovered a blown booster that was leaking vacuum like mad when you hit the brakes. A vacuum leak would also affect the 4 bbl. kicking in. Does it bog every time you kick in 4bbl. or just sometimes????
Yes, I do have power brakes. It only bogs every now and then. Sometimes Itll take right off and sometimes it just bogs real bad. And back to the brakes, they have been acting different latly. Sometimes theyll squeek and then growl real loud like theres something in the drum but ive looked and it looks good. The idle only picks up enough to be noticeable and it also doesnt do it all the time. Also, did you see the message I put in about the numbers I found on the water pump and block. I dont know if you can id them or not. But if you can it would be helpful. Especially since the heads and intake are 390 maybe the whole engine is. I dont know how else to find out. Thanks for any info and for still trying to help.
Alot of the posts Ive gotten said my timing chain may be slipping so Im going to replace it. I wanted to replace it when I changed the cam but I dont know how high of a lift I can go without having to change anything else. Any ideas on this? Im also going to replace brake booster to hopfully get rid of my vacuum leak. Also, Bulldog and Jowilker, could you find anything on the numbers from my last post? Again, thanks for all the help from everyone.
Chris, we have beat all the leaves off this bush. I have never seen a thread grow this long before. It's time to take your truck to a local shop that can put their hands on the project and give you some answers, and stop grasping for straws.
As I have stated before, there is something big wrong for your engine to be geared, and running at the rpms that you claim, and be dumping that much gas through it. No little vacuumn leak is gonna cause that much of a difference. You have a bad carb, a mismached cam. to head, piston ratio etc.
I was not asking about the problem anymore, Now i want to find out about the cam and mainly any info on the numbers I found on the block so Ill know for sure what I have.

chris the only c6me block number i could find was C6ME-A this number belongs to a 67 428 block. however, please do not get your hopes up, the FE block is very tricky to id.
Thanks for responding, I thought everyone had given up on me. I know that there are alot of posts up here responding to my problem with gas milage and appreciated all the help. I was told on an earlier post to find the numbers on block near the starter, Are you talking about on the back of the block or on the side behind the starter? I cant find anything so please be more specific. This is the first truck ive owned and I grew up around a chevy family so I dont know much about ford motors let alone the FE family and neither does my family or friends so any help you guys give me is really a BIG help. Thanks again.
