I just came across a 76 F-350 Super Camper Speacial for sale.I have never seen one before and I was wondering if they were a very common truck. It has a 390 4-bbl with a c-6 tans. The wheel base looks longer than most F-250 or 350 that I have seen.Truck is in great shape with no rust and several options, PS, PB, A/C, dual tanks.Any info on this truck would be helpful.Thank you.
They have a 140" wheelbase vs. 133" for the regular long bed. The spare tire is stowed in a compartment in the right front of the bed. All were F350 2WD reg. cabs. The main fuel tank is in-cab. Because of the longer wheelbase the bed is peculiar to super camper specials.
Not real common but not rare either
Yes they are rare. Made 2,300 of them from '73-'79.
Mike, There are no Super Camper Specials with in-cab tanks. They are all in between the frame rail.
In '77 they dropped the "Super" off of the name, so buyers wouldn't think they were buying a SuperCab Camper Special.
The '77-'79 Super Camper Specials are just called F-350 Camper Specials.
Super Camper Specials also have other special features such as a 10,000 G.V.W and a wire harness on the driverside bedside underneath.
Here is a picture of my Super Camper Special:
Not a brochure, a typewritten list that I've had for years. Typed 30+ years ago by a long out of business Ford dealer that listed features of the various models. Sort of a "cheat sheet" for their salesman.
It's gotten pretty fragile and there are pieces missing but it's neat to come across stuff like this.
2300???? seems a bit low i seen quite few in person and they pop on ebay and craigslist on a regular basis. just wondering if that is correct guess i shouldnt let mine set out in the field and rot.
Remember the F-350 trailer special also had a 140" wheelbase and spare tire in the side of the bed behind the door. They are comonly mistaken for SCS's.
Wonder what the production is of both of them combined?
Yes they are rare. Made 2,300 BS! of them from '73-'79.
The last time you posted this ridiculous figure, I asked you where you got it from...you never replied.
So...I'm asking again: Where exactly are you getting this production figure from?
A Marti Report is the only way to find out the TRUE figures. I'd bet the farm you didn't spend the bucks to get one.
For one thing, Super Camper Specials were only made 1973/76, because Ford dropped the Super portion of the name after 1976.
1973/76 F350 total production figures: 208,526. Based on these figures, even if you claimed only 2,300 1973/76 S/CS's were made, I'd still say BS!
Your claim that only 2,300 total 140" wheelbase 1973/79 F350: Super Camper Special's/Camper Specials were made, out of a total F350 production of 393,421 would mean that Ford only sold 328 per year, which is not only BS but is ridiculous.
I think they are quite rare. I've seen about 4 over the last 30 years or so. Airports used to use them a lot. That's where I seen 2 of them very long time ago. 2,300 would supprise me a bit.
I seen one at JIA and Atlanta IA back in the late 70s. Two different airports, someone in the air servicing industry must of had some sort of use for them. I love the SCS, 4 out of the millions of trucks I've seen, I look for them.
GM made one too. The Original Fall Guy Truck had the spare in the body in front of the wheel.

I don't remember that. I remember the show, and I remember Dick Cepek built the trucks for the show (even had an article in Peterson's "4-Wheel and Off Road" magazine talking about how stock the suspensions and axles were - 3/4 ton GMC).

I am aware that Ford dropped the Super off of Super Camper Special, in '77.
I stated it first.
Those production figures are for all F-350s...
There isn't much difference between a '73-'76 Super Camper Special, and a '77-'79 F-350 Camper Special Regular Cab...(Besides the name of course)
As for were I got the production figures, I couldn't tell you. I've also heard 3,300 for '73-'79...
Where did YOU (Bill) get your production figures? We are talking about Super Camper Specials, and if there were 208,526 of them made, they'd be everywhere. Which just isn't so. Well, I gotta give it to ya old coot, you have helped people, including me, if it wasn't for this site, I wouldn't know what a Super Camper Special is.
Yes there was a F-350 140" Trailer Special, I have pictures of one, and brochures of them.
Thanks,
