CCV Mod

I was thinking about doing the ccv mod and venting the ccv to the air box. Anybody else done it this way? Would I still need something to catch the oil if I run the hose over the brake booster.

You will be going through quite a few air filters using this approach. If you had some type of catch can/filter before the air box it would be better.

This site has several size CCV "catch cans". Saikou Michi Co. Home Page Click on SIZES as well as THE DIFFERENCE at the top of page.

I'm using one of the oil type filters that you can clean. Maybe not a good idea to do it this way? Thanks for the link to the catch tanks. I was hoping to avoid using one.

I think he's right, you'll be cleaning that filter all the time. Will a catch can even condense all the vapors anyway?
I just run mine under the hydroboost unit and let it drip on the ground. It doesn't drip much and it doesn't bother me. With synthetic I don't see much smoke and don't notice any odor.
Just curious, what's the concern with venting it to the atmosphere?

Just make sure that you don't make something that is so restrictive that it will not properly vent the pressure out of the crank case. You will start getting leaks at gaskets and seals.

I was thinking about doing it this way to avoid the smell. Guess I will have to re-think doing it this way.

Depending on what oil you use the smell will change. For me Delo was terrible smelling and Rotella T is much better.

Also, I think PonyBoyChris can make you a trap if you want. He has helped out several guys.

Maybe I'll just vent it out toward the fender wheel well. What kind of hose did you guys use? I guess you can get the caps for the air duct hole at an auto parts store?

Well you can try to do that. Or you can find some 4" exhaust tube and hose. But if you haven't looked in to it, Riffraff Diesel has a kit for that that is reasonably priced and has the fuel rated hose to vent with. That kind of hose doesn't saturate and seep oil. By the time you run around sourcing parts and considering your time, sometimes it just nice to have it all delivered to you.

I ran mine all the way back with 16 feet of heater hose, 3/4"...a 5/8" 90 degree elbow, 3 clamps, and yes, i got a package of various sized rubber caps from Advance Auto...the biggest expense was the heater hose...i think it cost $24 all together...pics to come soon...

Run the vent hose past the cab along the frame. Make sure it has a downward slope the whole way. I used 3/4" heater hose although some say it will eventually deteriorate. I will just keep an eye on it.

The hole in the intermediate coupling needs to be airtight. I found a pastic plug at ACE and used RTV to seal it. I have since just replaced the intermediate coupler with a piece of 4" OD SS exhaust pipe about 5" long.

Thanks for the advice. Not sure if I will do the diy route or not?
