My father in-law has an 08' 250 cc sb with 45,000. He just pulled up in the driveway and said something was wrong with his truck. I test drove it, and from a roll, at full throttle, the boost builds to about 22 psi, the rpms climb to 3k, but the truck doesnt accelerate like it should. It takes an agonizing 3-4 seconds to get to 20mph. There is no smoke, no lights on, nothing. We drained the fuel filter housing for 25 seconds, still same story. Any ideas?
man, no offense. but the 6.0L forums yeild alot faster replies
but anyways, no, there were no indicator lights, no wrenches, no water. Everything was normal. The exhaust at idle from the tailpipe was very hot. I believe it was in regen, but the computer did not display it. Could this be so?
the regen issue may be it. If he were in a mandatory cleaning cycle it should have state "drive to clean" or something like that.
So more that likely if the exhaust was that hot it was just in a regular cleaning cycle. Some have a newer PCM flash that no longer displays the message, rather it just shows a few seconds and then goes away.
So what may happen is the next time he drives the truck it will want to finish the cycle.
On the other hand, if his power was that much reduced it still could be something else.

Try disconnecting the batteries, and letting the ECU reset. Something sounds very wrong, but sounds like it could be something in the brain, and not necessarily something mechanical. Try that and see if you get anything to change. If that does nothing, get it to the dealer immediately. Sometimes there are codes that can be read even though nothing comes up on your center console.
that is a good idea, you will need to disconnect both batteries. Suggest after the disconnect you turn on the headlights to ensure no remaining energy left in the system for a few minutes.
sounds like you have a 08 with an old EGR valve that boiles coolant get it in for service your intake is coking up because it is stuck open meaning no fuel and no air from soot build up in, intake

He is very particular about his maintenance. So I know that he had them changed in the required 10k. Sometimes even before. A little later yesterday after he left, it started out the same way. After about 4-5 miles, it picked up. He said it would run fine all the way till 90mph, which was fast enough for him. So maybe it was the Regen cycle? If it happens again, we'll disconnect the batteries and see if it resets.
koboss- if the EGR valve is the old style, is there anyway we can maybe get a new style put in?
Thank you guys for your responses. They were all quality. Insert foot in mouth now
If you have the coolant line running to the EGR valve it is the old style. If you have issues you will need to take it with those issues for them to address it.
I don't beleive they would change it under warranty just because.

Regen only limits it down to 325 HP. This is only a 7% reduction in power!
