My First Thread ive got a couple ?'s

I guess I'm just like everyone else that is new around here, I have a couple questions.

I have an early 1999 7.3 with 130k miles. Just after I got the truck I put the superchips 1705 on it and absolutely love it. Yesterday I put the 4 inch downpipe back exhaust system.

My real question is, What should be next?? I am a poor firefighter and cant really afford all the crazy stuff nor can I afford to blow up my truck so the next most reasonable mod is...........? I would like to do my next mod myself and not have to pay someone if that changes what you might suggest.

On a side note this forum is great and really helps a lot, BUT there is sooo much knowledge that it can be tough to understand everything. Im impressed that there are so few jacklegs on here too.

Welcome man

I would do this, ask yourself what you are trying to achieve? Then you can more accurately determine which is the next mod.

Mods can range from performance to appearance to who knows what in here!

Intake

A 6637 intake mod would be a good next step. Clay at Riff raff has the conversion kit.

I would get a set of gauges on there right now, gauges should always be the first mod...

Isspro pyro, boost and tranny temp...

Then a good intake, tymar type is great and cheap...

in my opinion your next move should be gauges and an intake. gauges will help you keep an eye on your egt's and trans temps (if you have an auto) so you dont damage the engine or the trans. they are great for troubleshooting stuff as well. the more gauges the easier the problems are to see.......

EDIT: dang you guys are fast........

I was about to say the same thing, you guys are really fast. I was hoping you wouldnt say gauges i dont know that I can do the guages alone. Can anyone recomend what is the best bang for the buck??? I have seen tons of stuff on yalls trucks that look awesome but i really need what is going to be best for the money not necessarilly what is different. Also Ive read a lot about the intake mod, do i really need a kit to do this?? I thought it was pretty straight forward.

Not to worry, everyone was new to the site at some point. Welcome! I did the 6637 filter, and the Walker BTM first, then my gauges and tuner. I was skeptical about doing the gauges too, but everyone assured me I could do it. They were right, not difficult at all. Just takes patience and time.

I did mine in the order of my signature below. I would recommend a valve body for tranny, it made a world of difference on my stock rig!

Taylor- Welcome - I would agree w/ the Moose- The valve body makes the truck shift so much better if trans is stock. Good Luck

Gauges are rather simple to do with regular hand tools, plenty of good write ups to go by as well a good days work for someone who doesn't know what they are doing and going step by step. I would do a 6637 kit first IMHO went this long without gauges and you'll get better filtration then the stock box and its cheaper to start off with.

I'm pretty new around here myself. Bought my truck about 6 months ago. These guys have helped me out with a ton of stuff already and gave me the confidence to do the repairs Ive needed as well as mods myself. Recently did isspro gauges very easy and straight forward. I want to do the 6637 intake and the in tank mods soon. I like the glow plug relay LED very much living in the north east.
