HI everyone, I have a 2005 E350 extended 15 passenger van withe the V10.
I am wanting to put 265/75/16E tires on it. I know they will fit on the back with no problems but have heard conflicting reports about the front.
Does anyone know for sure? Its stock I do not have a body lift or anything.
I did hear someone say they talked with a guy who had put them on the front of his and did a little trimming of the plastic on the bumper and they had no clearance problems.
Any help appreciated.
Andrew.
What I am doing is bringing my 4.10 gearing up to stock. The difference between 3.73 and 4.10 at 60 mph is 178 rpms, I was shocked to see how little it is. the 265/75/16E tires will bring the engine down 200 rpms which will put me right about the same ratio as 3.73. If they will fit.
be careful what you wish for. a taller tire will increase the likelihood that stability could be compromised unless you go to a tire with a good stiff sidewall and then any mileage gain will be more than offset in the increase in cost of the tire.
Yes that is a good point. I know that the 265 is 1 1/2 inches taller overall than the stock tires, so that is 3/4 of an inch actual height on the vehicle, not much in my mind. The 265 are $4 each more at tirerack.com than the stock in the same tire. Mich LTX.
I tow in the summer and need the 4.10 with the 245 tires and I was thinking that during the winter when I am doing a lot of interstate mileage I could go with the 265/75/16E to give me better mileage on the interstate at 75mph. I have a couple of extra rims in the shed.
I guess the other question I have is whether running two different sized tires front and back would mess up the ABS or any other computer information on the vehicle?
thanks for your reply,
Ive got a '03 E-350 w/ the 7.3. Its a company vehicle, that had a ranch hand front end replacment, and i managed to get 265/75/16 michelin's on it. it had minimal rubbing, only so when off pavement (which for me is daily) last time it was in the shop, ford reccommended a factory spacer to pick up the front end...3/4 inch or so...to compensate for the diesel and the weight of the front end...now i have very little rub, and when it does rub its on the plastic inner fender....as to drivability, i love it more...it smoothed out the ride, its still a slug off the line, but the old 7.3 is...its got 195k miles on it, so its allowed to be tired, still gives me great economy given its size....even sitting out with it running at 1000 rpm on a location for 6-8 hours, i can still get over 350 miles per tank...the tires do effect the speedometer slightly, but its about 4-5%....when im showing 67 on the speedometer, im doin 70...not too bad...the tires definately smoothed the ride enough to live with the small stuff!!!
Well, to do it properly every time you change the tires you need to reprogram the computer. Otherwise you are likely to get worse MPG. If your speedo is off, there is no real way to tell. If the P265 was an optional tire size for that model, it will say it right on the programming screen, otherwise the ratio itself needs to be changed.
I really do not think you are going to see much of a MPG difference in your vehicle, weight and drag are your biggest enemies and switching to the 3:73 ratio by a tire change just makes the transmission work harder and hotter getting up to 45+ mph. Curb weight empty has to be 6,000 pounds.
If I was looking to save some money, I would put really nice Michelins on it instead.
265/75-16 BFGs AT on my E350. Rubs just slightly at full lock. Other then that no problems. gained 1mpg on long hwy trips! and 1mpg more w/o the muffler
